A netizen shared an experience she had with her late grandmother that was spooky but yet heartwarmingly touching.
She said that there’s this belief among the Chinese that when someone in their family passes away, their soul will linger on earth for 7 days before they move on to the other world.
The girl’s grandmother passed away before Chinese New Year back in 2009, and she was waiting alongside her relatives for her to “appear”.
On the 7th day of her grandmother’s passing, her father was away and her mother was afraid of sleeping alone, so she asked her to sleep with her in the master bedroom.
Her mother then went to the kitchen for a smoke, leaving the girl alone in the room, lying on the bed.
She then heard snoring inside the room, even though she was the only one inside.
She then said out lout: “Popo (grandma), if you are here, can you wait for me to fall asleep first? Because I’m scared if you are really here.”
The storing then stopped.
The girl then (in a state of panic) hid under her blankets and tried to sleep.
That night in her dreams, she saw her grandmother scolding her in her dreams, angry that she was afraid of her.
But she told her that it doesn’t matter because she was the easiest person for her to reach out to.
The Ah Ma also said that she didn’t have much time and had to go soon, before leaving some messages to the girl to relay to her family and relatives.
The girl then woke up the next morning in tears, having got the opportunity to see her grandmother for the last time.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) announced today (18 June) that dining in at F&B outlets will be allowed to resume from 21 June onwards.
However, only groups of 2 people will be allowed instead of the 5 per group as originally planned.
The 2-per-group rule will also apply to indoor fitness activities with masks off.
MOH also added that groups of more than two people who are not from the same household will not be allowed to dine-in together at F&B outlets, even if they are split across multiple tables.
Co-chair of the Multi-Ministry Taskforce Lawrence Wong said:
“We allow people from the same household to have multiple tables, but they have to make very clear that they are from the same household, that is not new.”
“We’ve allowed that before and we will continue to do so. But if you are not from the same household, then you cannot go and do multiple bookings or have multiple tables, so the same rules that previously applied will continue to apply.”
Which means that a group of 6 family members will not be allowed to sit together as a table of 6.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) said on 17 June that students and staff who experience racism in schools should bring it up to their institutions immediately so that investigations can be conducted.
They also added that those who engage in racist acts will be counselled and disciplined.
MOE further reiterated that any form of racism is unacceptable and has no place in local schools.
MOE said:
“We expect all educators to conduct themselves to the highest standards of their profession, given their position of influence over their students, and we will not hesitate to take the appropriate disciplinary actions against offenders.”
“Our schools aim to provide a supportive and safe environment where students and staff, regardless of their race and religion, can build strong and positive relationships, voice their concerns, and seek help from their teachers and peers.”
“Within the classroom, topics on multiculturalism and the importance of racial harmony are taught in subjects like Character and Citizenship Education, history and social studies.”
“These values are practised and reinforced beyond the classroom as students interact with one another during student development experiences like CCA and cohort camps.”
This comes in the light of more and more minorities coming out with their experiences with racial prejudices during their time in school, as well as the recent viral news about the racist Ngee Ann Polytechnic lecturer Tan Boon Lee flaming Islam in his classrooms.
Kaiser Sow, 20-years-old, was charged earlier today (18 June) with abetting the breach of SHN requirements by a person on SHN at a SHN-dedicated facility, and also for trespassing into the premises of a SHN dedicated facility.
He had allegedly snuck into his friend’s (who was serving her SHN at a hotel) room on 28 November 2020, at about 3pm, and spent an hour with her inside.
He purportedly took a lift to enter the hotel’s restricted area, before taking another service lift to his friend’s room.
He was later spotted by the hotel’s security guard but fled the scene before he could be caught.
The infamous racist auntie, Tan Beow Hiong, 57-years-old, who made headlines and went viral for her racist comments; was charged in court earlier today (18 June).
She was charged with one count of public nuisance and two counts of knowingly committing an act that is prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony between different religious or racial groups and disturbs or is likely to disturb the public transquility.
Two of her charges were for the infamous MRT incident, and she was accused of “singling out other passengers in the cabin whom you thought were Malay”.
She was also charged for allegedly maintaining a YouTube channel that had “multiple videos alleging racism or harassment by persons of other races”, where Tan repeated said in her “Malay Man Attempted to Molest Chinese Woman” video that Malays shouldn’t touch Chinese.
Tan will be remanded at IMH for 2 weeks to undergo psychiatric evaluation.
