LOUIS VUITTON AND CHANEL TO INCREASE PRODUCT PRICES

Top luxury brands such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton have increased the prices of their products as they seek to make up for the lost of sales during weeks of coronavirus lockdowns.

High-end brands have all reported brisk business especially in South Korea and China, where shops began to reopen in March, partly offsetting a slump in Europe and the United States – where restrictions are only just starting to be lifted.

Chanel said on Wednesday it was increasing prices on its iconic handbags and some small leather goods by between 5% and 17% around the world as the pandemic had pushed up the cost of certain raw materials.

Louis Vuitton has also stated that they ere enjoying a steady sales growth in excess of 50% in China. This has in turn hiked up prices of products in the United States and Europe as well.

In China and South Korea, people started to queue outside of Chanel stores as soon as rumours of imminent price increases began to spread on social media.

GOV TO REVIEW WHETHER TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO VISIT RELATIVES

Source: screengrab from Lawrence Wong FB Video

The government is currently reviewing whether to allow people to visit their relatives after June 1 when the circuit breaker measures are lifted.

“We recognise that many people would like to visit their family members,” said National Development Minister Lawrence Wong, who co-chairs the multi-ministry task force tackling the coronavirus outbreak.

“Many parents and grandparents miss their children and grandchildren,” he added, stating that video calls are not the same as being physically present. The authorities understand this desire to be physically connected again, he said.

“While we would like to allow them to see one another… we have to be quite cautious in moving on such a measure. “Particularly when it comes to the elderly, because we all know that they are vulnerable, and if they were to catch the virus, the disease is potentially lethal for them.” Mr Wong spoke on this current issue at a virtual press conference yesterday.

$240 CRABS FROM HOUSE OF SEAFOOD ARRIVE LATE WITH “FISHY SMELL”

Facebook user Sunny Han took to Facebook to complain on the quality of crabs from House of Seafood.

She ordered $240 worth of crabs to celebrate Mother’s Day but ended up disappointed with her order. An order for two black pepper crabs and one golden cream crab was placed from House of Seafood Punggol, but was deeply saddened when she opened the box.

Firstly the crabs arrived late but what shocked her was the pungent smell. Upon peeling the crabs, she realised that the flesh stuck to the shells which was one of the tell tail signs that the crabs weren’t fresh.

Overall, her mothers day celebration for her mother was a disaster and she urged netizens to pay attention of the quality of food before consumption.

Mr Huang, the owner of House of Seafood responded by informing customers that they can contact the restaurant directly if they have any complants.

He also apologized to Ms Han for the unpleasant experience and she guaranteed that the crabs are delivered fresh to them every day.
