SALESMAN ALLEGEDLY SCAM WOMAN TO BUY 10 YEARS WORTH OF FIRE EXTINGUISHER

My mum was told by this certain company’s fire extinguisher salesmen that all HDB flats are / must have fire extinguishers installed by 2020 April. And that they currently have a promotion of originally 800+ to now 1 can for just $17.90.

They mentioned to my mum they don’t accept Cash, Only Nets.
Upon keying in the nets machine, did my mum notice on the invoice it is not 17.90 but $179.

By then the transaction has been made, and the salesperson “THAN” mentions it is for a 10 years contract.

I felt its a misleading/scam case. We have filed a police report, as for now. Not yet for CASE.

– For those who are saying why didn’t check, my mum is in her 60s.
– She doesn’t know English.
– She can’t see very well.
– And she was made into a “fear of loss” stage which indirectly compelled her to make the purchase.
– I won’t deny she was impulsive because of it and made the purchase without clarifying with us,(her kids). By which when we came home it was all too late.
– It is a $179 dollars lesson learnt, and I hope this would save and help everyone falling to such scams.

A similar report on the same salesman in July 2019

“I would like to bring attention and alertness about the below sales scam happened in Punngol last week.

One of my Friend is cheated by the sales agent who is from Singapore fire prevention .he sold a fire extinguisher for $179 with the false scam . the guy claimed that there was a fire accident in the nearby block And it is must to buy fire extinguisher . The sales guy claimed that he is working for HDB and it is must to keep extinguisher as standby especially for resales HDBs. He also cheated that he is giving subsidal rates for Singaporean’s and PRs. The seller is not contactable and he has already blocked the communication channel

these are completely fake & this is one of the biggest sales scam . My friend has already did a police complaint and I am writing here to alert . ”
