A 42-year-old woman allegedly pressed a heated iron onto her maid’s right arm repeatedly and hit her eyes with her firsts and clothes hangers.
She is due to be charged tomorrow (28 April) with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, one count of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous means and two counts of voluntarily causing hurt.
The Ministry of Manpower have been appointing officers since 5 April to conduct visits to random homes of maids, checking on their living and working environment.
MOM said in a press release that this is part of a series of enhancements to provide better support to the maids and their employers.
The officers will check on the maids’ environments to see how well they have edjusted to them, as well as reminding them and their employers about safe working conditions and the avenues where they can seek assistance from should it be required.
Tan Shu Xiang, the director of engagement of MOM, said that the purpose of the visits is to provide a conducive environment for maids to bring up their concerns.
Employers are informed of the visits one week in advance, and those who refuse the visit will be asked to bring their maids to MOM for an interview.

Wives have been feeding their husbands with the drug, diethylstilbestrol, a synthetic estrogen which can prevent men from achieving an erection. Such stories have been widely circulating on social media recently.
It is believed that some of these women bought the medicine through online shops and secretly mixed it into their husbands’ meals and drinks. Some unfaithful husbands apparently did stop cheating on their wives after they consumed the medicine.
Some female netizens’ positive remarks on the efficacy of the medicine, which was identified as carcinogens by the World Health Organization.
“The medicine took effect just two weeks after I started feeding it to my husband. Now he basically stays at home, behaving himself well,” said a Chinese woman.
After the article went viral, the medicine was taken off the “shelves” of online shops as of Monday morning when Global Times reporters searched on popular e-commerce platforms.
Some shops still secretly sell the medicine in the form of white powder which is odorless and instantly soluble in water. A shop previously sold the medicine to over 100 customers in a month.
A shopowner recently claimed that it usually takes 15 days to take effect. Men’s ability to achieve an erection can return to normal 21 days after they stop taking it.
Legal experts, however, reminded the wives that they could face criminal responsibility if their husbands are physically severely injured, and online shops prosecuted if they don’t have the relevant medical sales licenses and are suspected of illegal business.
Mediacorp clarified that they were not aware of Pow’s drink driving charge (Pow failed to inform the artiste management team about the incident, which took place in September 2020.
They were unaware about it until it was reported in the media last Thursday.
Mediacorp said that they do not condone “any behavior that runs afoul of the law.”
Pow was also involved in another illegal activity when he was found to have breached Covid-19 safe management measures by gathering (among several Mediacorp artistes) in a large group for a social event at Terence Cao’s home.
Pow was fined for that offence and received internal disciplinary action from Mediacorp.

An Indian national recently posted a question of the Indians In Singpaore Facebook page as he tries to take advantage of Hong Kong Air Travel Bubble to enter Singapore.
The air travel bubble will allow quarantine-free travel between Singapore and Hong Kong which is set to take off on May 26 – six months after its initial planned launch.
The Singapore’s Ministry of Transport stated that there will be one flight a day in each direction, capped at 200 passengers on each flight for the first two weeks.

A video was recently uploaded on the Facebook page Roads.sg which shows a man challenging a driver after he tried to cross the road when the red man was still showing.

Driver was moving off from Westgate on a green light and had to brake before moving off because a pedestrian was crossing on a red man. He gave him a light honk because he was jaywalking when vehicles are green, which is dangerous for him.
He then motioned that he should not be honk at and started to act aggressive. Driver pointed to the camera at once he realized he was on camera, he left.

Following the announcement of Singapore’s imminent air travel bubble with Hong Kong, Minister of Transport Ong Ye Kung said in a press conference earlier today (26 April) that a similar proposal has been submitted to Taiwan to establish an air travel bubble.
Ong said:
“The Taiwanese authorities are studying it and I hope to get a response on that soon.”
Taiwan’s health minister Chen Shih-chung said last month that discussions have begun between the two countries, revealing that Singapore was keen for Taiwan to match the current arrangement allowing incoming travellers from Taiwan to skip the 2-week SHN when visiting.
Ong also said that Singapore is keen to establish air travel bubbles with Australia, New Zealand, Brunei and China as well.
Responding to the suspension of the planned travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand due to their rise of Covid-19 cases, Ong said:
“You can’t say for sure that everything will be smooth sailing.”
She apparently has an entire YouTube channel dedicated to her harassment of minorities in Singapore.
In the captions of her videos, she could be seen describing the alleged “acts of harassment” she “faced”, while justifying her actions.
She also (once again) described how she was from Hwa Chong JC and a university graduate from a Canadian university, and for some reason spoke about the guy that she is looking to marry must be of a higher educational or professional level.

A video emerged online showing some metal rods being flung out of a lorry, as a car waited for its turn to make a left turn.
It so easily could have turned into a tragic accident, reminiscent of that one scene in Final Destination where logs were falling out of a truck and killed a person.
