A 24-year-old was arrested by the police after making numerous retail purchases amount to over $12,000 dollars.

The police have provided some tips to avoid unauthorized transaction of a credit card.

Police media report:

The Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in using a credit card belonging to another person to make unauthorised retail purchases amounting to more than $12,000.

On 13 December 2018, the Police received a report from the victim that his credit card was misused for multiple transactions. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had lost his credit card.  He later discovered that more than 200 unauthorised transactions were made using the card between October and December 2018.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from the Commercial Affairs Department established the identity of the woman and arrested her along Lakepoint Drive on 3 Jan 2019. Various items, believed to have been purchased using the victim’s credit card, were seized as case exhibits.

The woman will be charged in court on 4 January 2019. Any person who is convicted for dishonest misappropriation of property shall be punished with a jail term which may extend to 2 years or a fine, or with both. Any person who is convicted for unauthorised access to computer material under Section 3(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act, Chapter 50A shall be punished to a fine not exceeding $5000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both.

The Police would like to advise all credit / debit card holders to adopt the following measures to prevent unauthorised use of their cards: 

1. Opt for SMS OTP verification for purchases or charges to your credit / debit cards; 
2. Opt for an SMS to be sent to your handphone for any charges incurred on your credit / debit card; 
3. Check bank statements and alert the bank immediately should there be any discrepancies or fraudulent charges; and 
4. Do not give out your credit / debit card details to strangers.

The Police would also like to take this opportunity to remind merchants and sales staff to exercise vigilance and adopt correct card acceptance procedures when processing credit card transactions. They should look out for the name and security features on the card face and should contact their processing bank immediately for advice regarding if they detect anything suspicious.

ALERT! I received an incoming call from this number which happens to be an automated phone call when I picked up, saying I have a parcel from SingPost and to press “2” to speak to the customer service officer (didn’t mention the purpose of the call). So I pressed “2” and this man with a China accent asked for my NRIC number and my full name (he asked me to spell it out). I immediately felt suspicious of course and questioned him.

He said he needed the information to book the item to send it to me. (LOL what item? Singapore Post has never contacted me before about any parcels) I just hung up halfway and called SingPost’s official hotline to enquire about this and yes they acknowledged and said they received multiple feedbacks recently regarding such calls as well.

This photo was taken at 200 Woodlands Industrial parking lot right outside Sheng Siong. The incident happened on the 5th Jan 2018 on a Saturday morning.

The lorry driver was seen driving into the parking lot and parked like a C*B. Later on the lorry open his door hard and a loud noise was heard. People around the area was staring at the lorry driver but he ignored and went quickly to the coffee shop beside sheng siong to buy roti prata.

I not here to create any animosity or fear .

I just wanna share something weird that happened at the playground near Blk 277d Compassvale link .

Was at the playground with my Son when suddenly a China auntie approached my son with another child aged about 2. ( while playing games on mobile phone )

Initially they were just holding hands ( the child and my son) and was walking around the play ground . When suddenly the China Auntie just held my Son’s hand and walked away.

I quietly followed behind and notice that they are walking faster away from me and the playground .

My first reaction is to shout at my Son and demand him to come back . The china auntie seems shocked and noticed that I was furious and just quietly slip away even before I have time to take photo or video of her face.
The whole series lasted less than 8 Sec ( from holding my son hand to walking away with him ) .

Please … be more careful with your child and be alert.

Luckily I was just casually playing my game and not texting my boss or something .”
