A 60 year old fruit seller was detained for being aggressive and hurling crudities at three NEA officers on Monday. Based on Police accounts, the NEA officers were carrying out their repetitive spot checks along Arumugam Road in Ubi when they suspect were believed to be vending fruits deprived of a valid license.

At first the unnamed man, tried to flee the scene only be to caught. Up to this point that the man became restless. He first was to hit and head-butted the first NEA officer and spitted at the second NEA officer. He also thumped his car door on the third NEA officer. Throughout the episode, the man was flinging crudities at the men.

The man was bought to court on Wednesday, charged with using insulting language on a public officer.

Sorry if this goes in contradiction of any guidelines on this subject but I had to let my voice be received.

I’m American born, beforehand living, studying and working there. Compulsory to transfer here to be enlisted in National Service.

In order to do so,  I’ve given up my house, my car, my motorbike, my job, my college, my friends and most lately, lost my long term girlfriend. I have only 2 individuals I would consider friends here. A household for which I do not care for, nor they for me. I am powerless to chase my career, nor am I permitted to further on my education. I was required to transfer here 10 months ago or be branded as fugitive. In those 10 months I have also yet to be conscripted. My mobilization date is a full year AFTER my compulsory homecoming to a republic I have not once called family.

In this year of waiting, I am left in limbo. Left to toil tedious jobs in order to upkeep myself and take up my time. Jobs value doing, in my arena of study decline to hire me as I have not finished my service. I hold an associates degree in Biotech and Molecular Bioscience. Another 2 years and I would have my Bachelor’s yet I am unable to chase this because further training is “not allowed”. Instead I waste those 2 years aiding a republic I will never live in.

My life has been traumatized and gotten to a yelping halt thanks to a scheme that justifiably make logic but has little to no flexibility. I am not a exceptional case, there are hundreds in my shoes whom face, or have faced, the same bitterness that I do. I cannot growth in life, I cannot advance my studies nor start my career. I am enforced to stay and just be. Immobile. Unable to advance in life. Truly in limbo.

I have nothing against the people or anyone else. My animosity is towards MinDef. An old, outplayed system that they refuse to mend or tinker with has cause not only mine, but hundreds of people to give up nearly everything in their lives to comply with an obnoxious law as we rather that than become fugitive of the state. Never allowed to step foot in the country, even if it is just a layover..
