$2500 STOLEN FROM SINGAPOREAN AT SONGKRAN FESTIVAL – BANGKOK KHAO SAN ROAD

Yearly, many tourist flocks to Bangkok’s water festival for gun fights but end up being targets of pickpocketing syndicates. A netizen shared news saying the threat is real and shares his experience in dealing pickpockets during this season!

Netizen only wanted to known as Mr Tan was travelling with his friend and enjoying the festival at Khao San Road. Khao san road is popular among tourist as it has an endless stretch of bars and girls and tonnes of counterfeit goods. But what lurks in the shadows is also the criminal groups that rob and cheats money.

Mr Tan got caught up in the crowd and had a hard time moving through to reach his friend. In a mere 5mins moving through the crowd. His wallet and handphone were missing. During Songkran festival, the sale of plastic zip lock bags is common to prevent personal belongings such as handphones and wallets from getting wet. The problem with this zip lock bag is that it can be easily slice open with a penknife.

Trying to squeeze through the crowd was never a good idea but during Songkran festival, the streets at Khao san are practically 24/7 party area with a huge crowd. After passing through the crowd and finally gathered with his friend. He realises that the waterproof bag had a clean knife cut and his belongings were missing.

Missing items included his Samsung phone and his wallet. The only items left behind were his passport and cigarettes. One can only imagine if the passport also went missing.

Mr Tan describe it as “I did not feel anything”.

Please be careful during the Songkran Festival!!!
