A violent altercation broke out at Genting Highlands’ indoor theme park, resulting in a chaotic scene that has now gone viral on Malaysian social media. The incident involved several men, believed to be of Chinese and Indian descent, who launched a group attack on one man dressed in white.
In the widely circulated video, the victim is seen being surrounded and assaulted by multiple individuals near the entrance of the SkyAvenue indoor amusement centre. The attackers did not stop at fists—they picked up metal queue barriers, plastic chairs, and even signage boards to strike the man repeatedly.
Onlookers were stunned by the sudden eruption of violence in a typically family-friendly environment. Two other individuals, whose identities remain unclear, were seen attempting to intervene—either as bystanders or friends of the man in white—but were quickly overwhelmed in the scuffle.
Victim Escapes, But Tension Escalates
Despite the vicious beating, the man in white managed to break free and flee the scene. However, several of the attackers were seen chasing after him almost immediately, intensifying fears that the violence could have spilled into other areas of the mall or nearby public spaces.
The situation has sparked widespread concern over security measures at the popular tourist destination. Many netizens questioned how such an attack could occur in broad view without immediate intervention from security personnel.
Genting Malaysia has since confirmed that they are aware of the incident, which took place on 10 July near the SkyAvenue precinct. The company has lodged a police report and stated that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies during the ongoing investigation.
Police Investigating, Motive Still Unknown
Bentong District Police Chief Superintendent Zaihan has acknowledged that a report was filed, although no official details have been released to the public at this stage. Authorities have not commented on whether arrests have been made or if they have identified all those involved.
As the investigation unfolds, many are urging witnesses to come forward with information or footage that may assist police in piecing together the sequence of events. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with no official word on whether it was a premeditated act or a spontaneous outburst.
The viral video has reignited concerns about public safety at popular entertainment venues, especially during peak travel seasons. While Genting remains a top tourist destination for Malaysians and visitors alike, the recent violence has cast a shadow over its reputation for being a safe and controlled environment.
Public Urged to Remain Calm and Vigilant
In response to public outcry, Genting management reassured visitors that it is reviewing internal security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. Visitors are urged to report suspicious behaviour and avoid engaging in altercations, no matter the circumstance.
Authorities have also reminded the public that engaging in or instigating violence in a public place can lead to serious legal consequences, including imprisonment. They also stressed that attacking someone with objects such as metal railings or chairs may result in aggravated assault charges.
As the clip continues to circulate online, many Malaysians are calling for a swift and transparent investigation. The public hopes that those responsible will be brought to justice promptly, and that such incidents do not become a common occurrence in public spaces.
