A tragic road accident in Malaysia has left a young family grieving, with the widow of a delivery rider sharing how her children are coping with the sudden loss of their father.
The victim’s wife, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, revealed that her children have been sleeping with their late father’s clothing in an attempt to feel close to him. The emotional detail underscores the profound impact of the incident, which has drawn widespread attention across the region.
Her husband, Amirul Hafiz Omar, was killed in a collision involving an alleged drunk driver, who has since been formally charged with murder in a Malaysian court.
Speaking to reporters, Nadia expressed a mix of grief and relief following the charge, stating that she is seeking justice for her husband’s death.
Fatal Crash Linked to Alleged Drunk Driving
The accident occurred along Jalan Raya Barat in Klang, Selangor, where Amirul was riding his motorcycle to purchase school books for his son.
Reports indicate that a car driven by R. Saktygaanapathy was travelling against the flow of traffic at high speed, allegedly overtaking multiple vehicles before colliding head-on with Amirul.
The 32-year-old rider was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed that the driver tested positive for both alcohol and drugs following the crash, raising concerns about reckless driving and substance abuse on the roads.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect had also admitted to consuming controlled substances earlier that day in a separate case, adding another layer to the legal proceedings.
Family Plans Return to Hometown for Support
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Nadia is preparing to relocate with her three children to her hometown in Taiping. The move is intended to provide a stronger support network, as the family had limited relatives in their current residence in Shah Alam.
She shared that the relocation was in line with her late husband’s wishes, particularly in the event of unforeseen circumstances. With extended family available in Taiping, she hopes to ensure her children receive the care and emotional support they need during this difficult period.
The couple’s children — aged nine, seven, and two — have struggled to process the loss. In one poignant moment, Nadia recounted how her youngest child, visiting her father’s grave for the first time, innocently remarked that he was “inside”.
Legal Action and Search for Justice
Beyond the criminal proceedings, Nadia is also considering filing a civil lawsuit against the accused. Potential damages are estimated at nearly RM1 million, which converts to approximately S$318,878.
The case has reignited discussions around road safety, drink-driving enforcement, and liability claims in fatal accidents across Malaysia. Legal experts note that civil action could provide financial support for the family, particularly given the loss of a primary breadwinner.
For Nadia, however, the focus remains on her children’s well-being and preserving the memory of her husband. She also expressed concern that her eldest son might blame himself, as it was a request for school supplies that led Amirul to be on the road that day.
