A lady shared a story of how her husband and herself decided to lend a friend who was in need a substantial sum of money in the past and did not get a single cent back.
The friend was going through some tough times and decided to approach the couple for help and even gave them a plan on how she would return it but nevertheless, did not keep to her word.
Here is the story
“My husband and I both screwed up about a few months ago. Newly married, just bought a house. We thought we were saving a friend by giving a substantial amount of money to help keep her in her house she was renting. She was falling on hard times, struggling to keep a job while putting herself through school for a degree in business. She has been a good friend of ours for years and is reliable/good on her word. She promised to pay us back at the end of November and gave us a plan on how she was going to do it.
Her landlord was going to evict her unless she came up with two months of rent. My husband and I talked for a few hours until we came to the agreement that we would give her and her boyfriend the money. We knew the risk we were taking but we still trusted them.
We then sent them the money
About a week later, she is evicted because she did not take the money to return the landlord and instead spent it on something else. Her deposit was forfeited to make up for the rent arrears and our money is also gone.
Two months later neither of them have been able to find reasonable work to be able to live and pay us back.
Just found out they are planning to go to another country in order for better opportunities.
Seems like any chance of us getting our money back ever is slim to none at this point and it all had just disappeared like that.
I am so angry that I agreed to do this at all at this point.”
