A Covid-19 mutation has been detected by the Malaysian Institute for Medical Research that is 10 times more infectious than the current strain.
The mutation, called D614G, was detected after isolating and testing four cases from two existing clusters.
Malaysian health director-general Noor Hisham Abdullah, posted on Facebook the discovery and said that the community needs to be more careful now.
He assured people that the two clusters are “under control”.
It is worth noting that although the mutation is more infectious, it isn’t any deadlier.
Hisham advised the public to continue with safety measures such as social distancing, practising good personal hygience as well as the usage of face masks.
