The Covid-19 pandemic will be declared an endemic in Thailand via 4 stages, with effect from 1 July, according to The Bangkok Post.
All travellers will no longer need to be tested and wearing of masks in public will no longer be required, except for people who are sick, and also for “high risk” areas, according to Kiattiphum Wongrajit, the permanent secretary for the Ministry of Public Health.
According to The Nation Thailand, only travellers who are unvaccinated will be required to take an antigen test.
He added that the Thai authorities have a 4-stage plan to make Covid-19 an endemic, with the first stage seeing the government focusing on the impression of the infections to contain and reduce severe cases, this will last from 12 March to early April.
The second stage will see the stabilisation of the infection rates before the decline, and this will last from early April to May.
The third stage will see their daily cases dropping to 1,000 to 2,000 per day, and this will last from May To June.
The fourth stage will be the commencement of the endemic stage, which will start on 1 July.
At the moment, Thailand’s endemic status depends on the virus’ reproduction rate, and the mortality rate has to not exceed the WHO’s guide of 0.1% – Thailand’s current mortality rate is 0.18%.
