In a somber turn of events, a man’s life came to a tragic end as his body was discovered at the foot of a Simei block. The incident, reported by STOMP on January 6, has left residents in shock and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the untimely demise.
Eyewitness Account
The discovery was made after a resident heard a “loud impact” while at the HDB void deck. The resident, Louis, shared photos capturing the unsettling scene of the man’s legs protruding from the bushes near Block 253 Simei Street 1. According to Louis, the incident occurred around 8:35 pm when he was wheeling his mother home.
“I heard a loud impact. I looked around, nothing. So I carried on wheeling her to the lift lobby. While waiting for the lift, I turned my head to look around again. Then I saw two legs sticking out from the bushes,” Louis recounted.
Prompt Response by Authorities
Upon making the discovery, Louis promptly alerted the police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). Both emergency services arrived at the location approximately 15 to 20 minutes later. The SCDF paramedic, unfortunately, pronounced the 26-year-old man dead at the scene.
Based on a preliminary examination of the body, it was noted that the deceased appeared to be a Chinese man aged between 20 to 30 years old. In the aftermath of the incident, the police undertook a thorough search of the block, checking each floor and unit to determine if the individual resided in the same block.
Responding to inquiries, the police reported that they were alerted at 8:40 pm to a case of unnatural death at the Simei block. The SCDF corroborated the timeline, stating that they received a call for assistance at the same time. Despite the grim nature of the discovery, early investigations do not suggest foul play.
