DELIVERY DRIVER WHO CRASHED INTO MUM & 9 Y.O DAUGHTER @ BEDOK JAILED

A 46 year old man by the name of Sheik Salim Said was jailed today (22 Aug) for five months and banned from driving for five years after his release from his imprisonment term according to an article by Today.

This was after he pleaded his guilt to two counts of causing grievous hurt as he was driving without due care.

Was doing food delivery when incident happened

Sheik was on his way to complete a food delivery job when the incident occurred on 18 April 2021.

He was driving his vehicle along Bedok North Drive and was in the midst of filtering to the slip road as he wanted to exit to Bedok North Avenue 1.

The two victims, a mother who is 37 years old, and her daughter who is 9 years old, were crossing the zebra crossing headed into the direction of their home from Bedok Mall.

Unfortunately, Sheik who was driving without due care crashed into both of them.

Failed to give assistance to the mother and daughter pair

The footage of the incident was also played in court and it showed that Sheik had got out of his vehicle to move the mother and daughter pair to the side of the road.

However, he simply drove off after moving them aside to carry on his food delivery, ignoring pleas made by the mother for his assistance to call and ambulance for her daughter.

As a result of the collision, the 9 year old girl suffered a brain injury which required her to undergo surgery.

She was also warded in the intensive care unit for 10 days while being sedated.

The mother also suffered from minor injuries and abrasions after the collision

Possible punishments

For Sheik’s actions of causing grievous hurt by driving a motor vehicle without due care and consideration, he could have received a fine of up to $5,000 and/or jailed up to two years.
