In his post, he shares that today is the last day of the Chinese Lunar New Year and that his wife and himself have caught up with some friends at home over this period even though celebrations were smaller scaled then the years before the pandemic.

He also shares his delight in the advancement in technology, which despite all the current restrictions still manages to allow everyone to connect together and celebrate virtually.

Virtual Lo Hei held over Zoom

Dr Tan added that a virtual ‘lo hei’ was held via zoom where over 60 party members of the PSP joined in to recite blessings and also wished each other good fortune and health virtually.

Some PSP members also opened their homes to smaller groups to celebrate together physically.

Dr Tan then ended his post by saying that as we progress through the year, let us all treasure the time together with family and friends and work together towards a brighter future all for the country and the citizens.

Here is the post by Dr Tan

“Last Day of Chinese New Year 2022

Today is the last day of Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations or Chap Goh Mei. In the past, CNY celebrations at my home were busy and festive but celebrations this year have been more subdued – My wife and I were happy to catch up with smaller groups of good friends at home over this period.

And I am also delighted that, despite the restrictions, technology enables to us to still celebrate and connect all together!

In this vein, I also wanted to share pictures of a virtual lo-hei party where 60 of us ushered in the Year of the Tiger together on Zoom. Some PSP members opened up their homes to small groups – for example Francis Yuen @yuenkinpheng for Chua Chu Kang volunteers, Leong Mun Wai @leong.munwai for West Coast volunteers, and Jess Chua @jesschua.sg with PSP Youth Wing volunteers. We all took turns to recite the lo-hei sayings such as 大吉大利 (dà jí dà lì), wishing good fortune and good health to all – it was a wonderful time!

As we press on into the year, let’s continue to treasure our family and friends and together, let’s work towards a brighter tomorrow.

For country, for people!”
