A man was recently sentenced to jail after he used a cleaver to slash his sister’s ex-husband after drinking a bit too much.
56-year-old Pong Yoke Long was sentenced to 12 weeks jail for voluntarily causing hurt to 49-year-old Lim Boon Kiong.
Over fruits in potted plants
According to CNA, The incident took place on the 10th floor of a HDB located in Bedok, the victim allowed his ex-wife and Pong to stay in the same flat despite the divorce.
But their relationship was never good, they often argue over the plants along the corridor.
Earlier this year, Pong noticed that a fruit that he was growing on one of the potted plants had gone missing and accused Lim of stealing the fruits.
The violent altercation did not start yet, Pong went out and had drinks before he returned in the evening.
When he returned he saw the victim sitting in the living room and flew into a drunken rage and attacked Lim. He used a 16cm cleaver and started slashing him.
During the altercation, Pong spoke in Hokkien stating that he has been tolerating Lim for a very long time. (‘wa lun le sibei gu liao’)
Pong’s sister heard the commotion and went out of the room and attempted to stop pong.
Lim was slashed on his limbs and thighs, he escaped into his room and called the Police.
As the wounds he suffered were minor, Pong got a light sentence of 12 weeks for the charges of voluntarily causing hurt.
For the offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries a punishment of imprisonment for a term of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or a combination of such punishments.
