The handphone shop owner, Simon, said that the man had passed his shop on 14 February at about 12.30pm, at Block 130 Jurong Gateway Road.

The old man smiled at him and took his namecard, remarking that they had the same surname and told him that he stayed at Block 120 Jurong Gateway Road, which was nearby.

They had a casual conversation before the old man left and returned about 10 minutes later saying that he was in urgent need of help.

The old man told Simon that he was short of $160 and asked him if he could borrow $200, and that he would return him in 2 hours.

Simon trusted the old man as an elderly and subsequently lent him $200 as he looked desperately in need of help.

The old man never returned to give him back the money.

Simon shared that he has a video of the old man asking for help and taking his money, and that he has since reported the incident to the police.
