EMPLOYEE GIVEN $2K “WFH ALLOWANCE” TO BUY WHATEVER HE WANTS TO WFH

Company gave WFH purchase allowance – but I literally have nothing I require for now

Advertisements

Gonna sound like a major 1st world problem, but company basically gave 2k allowance for WFH purchase awhile ago.

I have yet to spend a single cent of it as there’s nothing I need and it’s due to expire sometime in 2023.

Should i just buy a bunch of random monitors or expensive ergonomic chairs and stash it in a corner until I have use of them?

Any ideas? I did previously purchase a bunch of accessories (ie KVM switches, power adapter etc, monitor cables), forgot to claim the expense but these barely cost over 20-30 bucks in total

  1. That sounds like a really good generous company that cares about the employee’s welfare.
  2. Devil’s advocate: company could have given extra $2k in salary bump instead of benefits. Company might be banking on people like OP who won’t use up the $2k.
Happens a lot with wellness/gym benefits in companies, not many people want to sign up for gym and would forgo their benefit. Also looks cool on paper compared to higher by a bit compensation.
Not saying there’s no stingy companies out there that won’t give both, but I’d rather take all cash than to do couponing with my employer. It’s like those supermarkets that force you to clip coupons or earn “points” to get good bargains.
  3. Noise cancelling head phones. Major game changer.
  4. Hello, previously my company gave me WFH allowance too, but I didn’t buy anything. Now I regret it because I kenna carpal tunnel and I have posture problems 1 year into work.
I suggest you research ergonomic equipment, like a vertical mouse or something. Maybe get 2 sets of equipment in case something spoils so you have a spare one
