EXPERIENCED WORKER’S JOB-HUNT GOING NOWHERE, EVERY DAY READ REJECTION EMAILS

Is the job market really bad right now or is it just me?

Advertisements

I have been actively hunting for a job for 3 months now and I am beginning to feel jaded and demoralized. I am not sure if it’s just the general market sentiment right now or if there’s something wrong with my resume.

For context, I am in the finance industry and am looking for jobs in banks/FIs etc. I have 7-8 years experience in two jobs in financial sales (not insurance).

The fact is I don’t just mass apply to every job listing I see. I do assess carefully what are the basic requirements needed for each role and apply only if I feel that I am suitable for it.

So far I only have a handful of proper interviews (4-5) in the last 3 months and have not got any offers. I am really at my wits ends and I am not sure what is wrong with me. I even applied to entry level/fresh grad roles and got rejected.

Every day it’s a whole lot of rejection emails. It’s leading me into a lot of self-doubt and ebbing self-esteem. The only reason I can think of is that the two companies listed on my resume are not banks/big companies – it’s local start ups kind of company.. maybe that’s why my resume is not being picked up? I’m not sure.

Over the last few months I have refined my resume multiple times and have also seek help from my network to see if there are any job vacancies but it seems like everywhere is recruiting but not recruiting at the same time?

I am very very stagnant in my current job and every day I am so jaded with my work and the job hunt.

Anyone who is looking for a job now can please share your experience? Or anyone with kind advice please leave a comment. Thank you so much

  1. One thing I would say is typically u need to go for roles that are more suited at your level of experience. 7-8 years in the industry doesn’t mean u are a shoo-in for grad roles. In fact the opposite is true as employers are wary due to likely mismatch in compensation/expectations/question over your career choice etc.
  2. To be honest you’re in a decent position to find a job. Since you have an existing job, you’re not time or financially pressured to find a job. Better to find the right job than a hastily picked poor one.
Your experience does make things harder so just keep at it
  3. stay strong. i’ve been looking for 1.5 years and sent out 600 applications. still looking
