The man, who is from Kampung Samparita Tengah, a village in the Kota Marudu district, had to walk for an hour with his daughter’s coffin in hand.

His 5-month-old daughter had died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital II in Kota Kinabalu, and he couldn’t afford to give her a proper funeral and send off.

A local charity organisation then provided the family with a casket and drove him and his deceased daughter home in a van.

However, the van got stuck after they encountered bad road conditions along the journey, and they couldn’t call for help as they were in a middle of a rural area with no phone signal.

The man then alighted from the van and continued the rest of the journey on foot while carrying his child’s coffin in his hand for about an hour.
