I love my son more than anything in the world, but recently I’ve had to make a tough decision to stop him from using TikTok.
My son has always been a bright and intelligent kid, but lately I’ve noticed his attention span and ability to focus has decreased significantly.
I’m not sure if it’s because of his involvement with the app, but I had to do something to preserve his mental health and keep him from becoming dumber.
It all started when my son asked to download TikTok on his phone. I was hesitant to let him have it, but I figured it was the newest trend and he’d be bored without it. Little did I know that he’d become so absorbed in it that it’d take away from his school work and other activities.
I began to notice a change in my son’s behaviour.
He was more easily distracted, his grades were slipping, and he seemed to forget things quickly. At first, I thought it was just the usual teenage behaviour, but then I noticed he was spending more and more time on TikTok. I was worried that this app was having a negative effect on him and I had to do something about it.
So, I decided to talk to my son and figure out what was going on. I asked him why he was so interested in the app, and he told me that all his friends were using it too. He said it was fun and he liked seeing all the funny videos. I asked him if he thought it was affecting his school work and he admitted that it had been. That’s when I decided to take action.
I sat my son down and explained that while I understand that the app is fun, it was also distracting him from his schoolwork and other activities. I told him that I was going to have to limit his usage of the app if he wanted to stay on track with his school work. I asked him if he was okay with this and he reluctantly agreed.
Since then, I’ve been monitoring his usage of the app and have set strict limits on how much he can use it. I’ve also been encouraging him to focus on his school work and other activities. It hasn’t been easy, but I think it’s been worth it.
My son is now back on track with his school work and has more time to focus on other activities. He’s also more focused and attentive when he is doing his school work. I’m glad I made the decision to limit his usage of the app because it was affecting his mental health and ability to concentrate.
I think it’s important for parents to be aware of the effects of these social media apps and to be proactive in limiting their children’s usage. It can be hard to step in and make these decisions, but it’s important for the wellbeing of our children. I’m glad I made the decision to stop my son from using TikTok, as it was making him dumber and affecting his mental health.
