Workers from Indian will soon return to Singapore in July under a pilot programme.
They will be employed by companies in the marine and construction sectors.
The associations stress that the workers will enter Singapore in a safe manner and testing will be done to check against Covid-19.
Singapore Contractors Association Ltd (SCAL), Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) and Association of Process Industry (ASPRI) released a statement stating that “The end-to-end process focuses on proactive testing of the workers through a COVID-19 testing regime over a 14-day period at specified on-boarding facilities at source country before departure for Singapore,”Â
This programme serves as a trial and if it is successful there will be more migrant workers coming into Singapore.
A spokesman from the association told Channel News Asia that “A few hundred workers” will arrive from India as part of the pilot programme
Previously, Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong said that more migrant workers will be allowed to work in Singapore
“This will ease the immense pressures our companies have been under since the start of the pandemic,” said Gan Kim Yong
