An insurance and finance company who pre-hired a foreigner for a managerial role but posted a job advertisement on the MyCareersFuture portal just for the sake of it has its work pass privileges suspended for six months.
A human resource manager who worked at the same firm made a complaint to the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (Tafep) after finding issues with the current hiring practices of her company.
Tafep found that while the company posted a job advertisement on the MyCareersFuture portal for the minimum period of 14 days stipulated under the Fair Consideration Framework, the pre-selected applicant had signed the employment contract before the advertisement had expired.
The job advertisement received 60 applications but none of them were invited for interviews. The British national who was pre-hired did not meet the advertised hiring requirements but he was still offered the job.
The case was referred to MON which suspended the company’s work pass privileges.
