FRESH GRAD GOT JOB AT MNC FOR $3.5K WITH 4 MONTHS BONUS, HE SAY TOO LITTLE

I received an offer for a Junior Trader position in an MNC. However, I was surprised to hear that the salary is only 3.5k base.

The interviewer mentioned that the bonus would be at least 4 months but was not willing to include it in the contract. The company is a large MNC firm trading mainly agricultural products.

Not sure if I should accept or continue looking. While I am keen in commodities trading, others have mentioned that energy/crude oil would pay better.

Do the seniors have any advise on this?

Here are what netizens think:

  • Agri trader here. Typically energy and metal pay better but agri is less cyclical. One of the Asian MNC headquartered in SG did have low base and high bonus. It is possible for a first year to get 4 to 6 months from experience but it heavily depends on the market condition too. For example, an extremely inverted market structure can cause continual pipeline losses that impact profitability as a whole. This is also why bonus isn’t guaranteed and written in contracts. Junior trader also don’t take on PnL responsibility and is mostly just learning and helping with execution. Bonus usually become more important as you climb and take on PnL responsibility. It is better to prioritize learning experience over small difference in pay in the start of your career. If you do well, the growth will be exponential within 5 to 10 years.
  • Get experience first before jumping lor.
  • Sad. SBS got better salary and no need to do degree also.
  • Real International global mnc or small regional player then become mini mnc? Got diff in exposure n salaries.
  • if they don’t put it in black and white, it’s not legit..
