It was the happiest day of my friend’s life, and the saddest day of mine. My best friend was getting married and I was the Maid of Honor, but my heart was heavy with sadness.
Not only was I feeling a sense of loss from my friend becoming someone else’s wife, but I was also feeling left out and lonely that I didn’t have a significant other to bring to the wedding.
It was like everyone around me had found their special someone, and I was the only one who was still single.
As I looked around the room, I noticed that all the other bridesmaids were either married or in a relationship, while I was the only one without a partner. To make matters worse, all the men attending the wedding were already taken. So, when the reception started, it seemed like all the couples were pairing off and I was the only one left standing.
That’s when my fellow bridesmaids and I got desperate.
We started “poaching” the single guys at the wedding in an attempt to save ourselves from feeling so lonely and out of place. We each started talking to the guys who had come to the wedding alone, trying to encourage them to dance with us, or at least join us for a few drinks, in an effort to make us feel less alone.
At first, the guys were a bit hesitant, but eventually they all agreed to our plan. We all ended up having a great time, and I felt like I was a part of the celebration instead of feeling like an outsider. Sure, the other bridesmaids and I were still single, but at least we weren’t alone.
Unfortunately, we didn’t realize that this “poaching” of the guys would have some unexpected consequences. By the end of the night, all the guys we had “poached” were now in relationships with other women!
life sucks.
