FT WORKED IN S’PORE FOR 1 WEEK, WANT TO QUIT ALREADY BECAUSE COLLEAGUES MEAN TO HIM

I’m not from Singapore and currently got a job here. I want to quit already just a week into my new work. On the first day I got nit-picked on everything, didn’t have a proper on-boarding and got alot of passive aggressive comments toward me. These are just a few of the things that happened.

Today, I feel like they’ve reached my limit. I couldn’t properly do a certain thing and they commented ‘do you want me to slap you’ with a smile on. I understand colleagues joke around but noticing how I felt this vibe from the beginning has made me lose my patience.

I’m on an EP pass, my medical report is yet to be sent to the MOM.

Has anyone been through this situation before? How would you go about it?

  1. Read MOM official guidelines on quitting. Pray that your contract didn’t specify a notice period, otherwise you’d have to pay/serve the notice period
  2. I didn’t have the same problem as you, but I too had terrible onboardings. Like once, after a few short session with my superiors they didn’t gave me anything substantial to do for 2 whole months, was bored to death.
Another time I had no one to guide me along, so i need to learn everything from scratch using playbooks.
Another time I started work for just awhile, we agreed on a certain task to be completed with the set period of time.
When i finished my work they told me i could have done it way earlier, they didn’t give me the proper tools to do it and I had to do it way more tedious and manual than i ever have to. So they put me on a Semi-formal performance notice straight after, wanted me to work from office all the way instead of the agreed hybrid arrangement.
I had thought that they really want me to leave so much that they decided to put me in such arrangement. End up within 4 months they announced retrenchment and i was caught in it, It totally suck because once they announce the layoff i had no motivation to do my work anymore. I then left a few months later as part of the exercise.
Singapore company suck at onboarding. They think that it’s the employees individual responsibility and their colleagues and superiors most of the time are too busy to help you around. Remember In singapore you are always working 1/3 of your proper workload.
Singapore 2 person work 3 person job, or 3 person work 4 person Job. Thus also this might be the reason why your colleagues may be frustrated at you because they find you too cumbersome to handle.
