MAN WANTED FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING IN SINGAPORE ARRESTED IN MALAYSIA AND RETURNED TO FACE CHARGES
On October 20, 2024, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) successfully apprehended a 37-year-old Singaporean man who was wanted for multiple drug trafficking offenses and other related crimes spanning from 2014 to 2024. This arrest marks a significant development in ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in Singapore.
The individual in question had a long history with the law, having been initially charged on April 3, 2014, with three counts of drug trafficking and one count of drug consumption. After being released on bail, he failed to appear in court on June 12, 2017, leading to an arrest warrant being issued against him.
His recent capture occurred in Malaysia, where he was detained on October 1, 2024, by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) for various criminal and immigration offenses. Following his arrest, he was deported back to Singapore on October 20, where he was immediately taken into custody by CNB officers.
Senior Assistant Commissioner Leon Chan, the Acting Director of CNB, expressed gratitude towards the NCID and RMP for their collaboration in this case. He emphasized that drug traffickers attempting to evade justice by fleeing overseas will find no refuge, highlighting the effective partnership between CNB and Malaysian authorities. “The close cooperation between CNB and NCID/RMP and the eventual arrest of the man in this operation is testament to the strong working relationship that CNB has with them,” Chan stated.
Upon his return to Singapore, the man was brought before the court to address the original drug charges from 2014. Additionally, CNB is actively pursuing further investigations into other drug trafficking cases linked to him.
This incident underscores the ongoing commitment of Singaporean authorities to tackle drug trafficking and related offenses, ensuring that individuals involved in such activities are held accountable for their actions, regardless of where they attempt to hide. The CNB continues to work closely with international law enforcement agencies to strengthen the fight against drug-related crimes.
