FULL TIME STAFFS HUMILIATED INTERN AT WORK, NOW SHE ASHAMED TO GO TO WORK

How to deal with embarrassment at work

Advertisements

Context I’m a intern who is clearing her uni attachment semester. Can i ask honestly if as an employee in an office, do u guys look down on interns who have made a mistake?

I had submitted in a piece of work to my higher up but apparently there was a miscom btwn what i understood and what he wanted, which resulted in my work being not what he wanted.

He didn’t scold me, but he talked down to me in a very condescending way infront of literally everyone… Today another colleague also loudly told me in front of everyone to do some self learning instead of asking him for help..

I know all these were my own fault but i feel soo embarrassed and ashamed to go to work now :”( how do u guys deal with shame at work?

I just completely break down each time quietly at my own desk as I’m not someone who can just shrug off a unpleasant comment easily…

I just feel so stupid, I’m dumber than the other intern who is rly rly smart, so even though I’m trying my best, i fear they already have a bad impression of me…

Pls advice… Not in the best of mental health right now with issues going on at home too…

Netizens’ comments

  1. if it’s a small mistake, it’ll be forgotten by tomorrow. if it’s a big mistake, they might remember that one intern who did a huge mistake but honestly they won’t remember your name or who you are.
More seriously, interns are here to learn and are thus expected to make mistakes. Everyone does mistakes. However in your case, I’d say that your boss did not handle things professionally, and would go as far as suggesting that the other colleague was a d*ck as from the info, it does not seem that you are working under that colleague, therefore it’s not up to them to comment/manage you.
Don’t worry too much about it. If they still mention this one mistake, it’s more a they-problem than a you-problem. You’ll find a better place eventually!
  2. Nah, anyone that cares too much for whatever interns do is not very valuable at work. Everyone just assumes interns are idiots with good intentions. It’s alright, you’re there to learn and it’s the responsibility of other employees/superiors to make sure you’re not handling anything that can seriously hurt business.
