A Malaysian man working in Signaproe, Steven Chong, shared on Facebook about his $700 per month rental for two people.

Chong said that he has read a lot of complaints online about other netizens’ experiences with bad landlords, and he wants to show his gratitude and appreciation for his own landlord instead.

He said that his $700 per month rental has not been raised for the last 6 years, even though he had expected the landlord to increase it.

He said that his landlord told him to “relax, we won’t increase the rent,” adding that they understand that earning a living so far away from home is not easy.

The landlord also understood that it would be very difficult for them (Chong and his partner) to move back to Johor Bahru and travel to Singapore every day for work, which moved him.

On top of the rental remaining stagnant, Chong added that his landlord also imposed no restrictions on the use of air-conditioning and cooking in the unit, and they also let him use the internet.

The landlord also allows him to wash his clothes thrice a week, only doing their own laundry (the landlord’s own laundry) every Sunday when Chong returned to Malaysia, as the latter thanked him for being “too accommodating” to him.

Chong also revealed that the landlord had paid out of his own pocket to buy him a new double mattress twice in six years.

He said that he is really lucky to find such a good landlord so far away from home, and he hopes more people will share stories that show the good and kinder side of landlords.

Netizens in the comments were quick to share their personal experiences with their own landlord, with one netizen writing in Mandarin that he is about to move for the 5th time in just three years, and another netizen added that not everyone is as lucky as Chong.
