187 people are currently under investigation after enforcement checks were conducted across Sinfasproe in a crackdown on errant public entertainment and nightlife.
The police said in a statement that the enforcement operations were conducted from 12 December 2021 to 23 January this year, with about 103 establishments under investigation.
16 outlets were found to have breached numerous rules under the Public Entertainment Act, Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act, and the Covid-19 regulations.
Among the many enforcement operations is a raid on an office and industrial building at Lorong 23 Geylang by officers from the Bedok Police Divison on 18 December, where 37 men and 12 women were found gathering in an unlicensed KTV unit.
The unit houses private rooms with their own karaoke system, speakers, and microphones. Alcohol was also purportedly provided by the operators.
A 37-year-old man who was one of the patrons allegedly cursed at the police officers and was subsequently arrested.
Two other men aged 29 and 32 were also arrested for supplying liquor without a license after being identified as the operators, and for Covid-19 rules breaches as well as working without a permit.
Two Vietnamese women, aged 22 and 28 were also arrested for allegedly being hostesses at the makeshift KTV.
The remaining patrons are under investigation for exceeding the allowed limit of 5 persons for social gatherings.
In another enforcement operation conducted on 31 December, officers from Bedok Police Division raided a shophouse along Geylang Road that was also operating as an unlicensed KTV outlet.
21 men and 19 women were found inside the premises, with two men and two women between the ages of 27 and 63, allegedly being the operators – the patrons are being investigated for breaches of safe management measures.
In another separate raid conducted by officers from the Central Police Division, a private residential unit along Beng Wan Road at Bendemeer was raided on 7 January and 7 men and 3 women were seen gathering to sing and eat.
The unit’s owner was identified as a 28-year-old man who allegedly used the premises to run an F&B operation and provide unlicensed public entertainment.
