In Singapore, there are typically two kinds of people. Those who care a lot about brands and how they look, while the other group don’t really care.
A girl shared a story how she had to take a bank loan to make her boyfriend happy.
Here is the story:
I just took a $20,000 loan from the bank to buy my boyfriend a Rolex. He told me that the Rolex is a good investment and I will earn back my money plus the interest if he ever sells it.
It was our anniversary and he is currently in between jobs and I really wanted to brighten his mood and I know owning a Rolex is his dream. It’s been two months since he worked and I have been paying for dates. But most of the time we just eat at coffee shops or foodcourts.
I knew that he wanted a Rolex for a long time and I wanted to surprise him, I went to my bank and took a loan of $20,000 with the following:
- Monthly repayment – S$ 898.00
- Total repayment – S$ 21,752.00
- Interest rate – 3.88% p.a.
- Effective interest rate – 8.20% p.a.
- One-time processing fee (1.0%) – S$ 200.00
As I do not have a credit card, I felt that just paying a single monthly instalment over two years is the best option.
However, my mother somehow found out and she said that I am getting scammed by my boyfriend. I really love him and I know that he is the one. If not I would not have taken a loan for him.
After he received the watch, he was surprised and he was so happy he had tears flowing from his eyes. This further validates that he is really happy and I am even more sure that I have made the right decision to get the loan.
However, my mother and father has been haunting me day and night to get the watch back and quickly refund or sell it off.
I don’t know what to do.
