GRAB RIDE FROM AIRPORT TO JURONG S$101, BUT DRIVER ONLY GETS $46: TRANSPARENCY?

Grab Driver Flags Fare Discrepancies Between Passenger Charges And Driver Earnings

A private-hire driver in Singapore has raised concerns over possible fare inconsistencies on the Grab platform, after claiming that the amount passengers paid differed significantly from what drivers received.

The issue surfaced after the driver shared screenshots of multiple bookings, showing what he described as a lack of transparency in fare breakdowns. The case has since drawn attention online, with discussions circulating on community platforms.

According to the driver, one trip from Changi Airport to Jurong and Choa Chu Kang showed a payout of slightly over $40 on the driver’s app. However, when he checked the same journey using the passenger-facing app, the displayed fare exceeded $100.

In another instance, a booking from the airport to Hillview allegedly showed a passenger charge of $62, while the driver’s earnings were listed as $33.70.

Driver Raises Transparency Concerns

The driver said the discrepancies were not isolated cases, adding that he experienced similar differences across multiple bookings. Frustrated by the situation, he reported the issue to Grab, believing it could be a technical glitch or system error.

According to his account, the platform responded by suggesting that it might be an application bug and advised him to reinstall the app. However, he claimed that the issue persisted even after following the recommended steps.

The driver expressed concern over what he sees as a lack of clarity in how fares are calculated and distributed. He also questioned whether drivers are being adequately informed about commission structures and dynamic pricing adjustments.

Screenshots Shared Online

To support his claims, the driver reportedly captured screenshots from both the driver and passenger versions of the app. These images were later circulated on social media platform Singapore Uncensored, where they quickly gained traction among users.

Online reactions have been mixed, with some expressing sympathy for drivers while others pointed out that ride-hailing platforms often include commissions, booking fees, and surge pricing that may not be immediately visible in driver earnings.

Awaiting Response From Grab

At the time of writing, further clarification from Grab Holdings is still pending. Questions remain over whether the discrepancies are due to a technical issue, standard commission practices, or differences in how fares are displayed across the platform.

Ride-hailing services typically apply various charges, including platform fees, incentives, and adjustments based on demand. However, the driver’s experience has reignited calls for greater transparency, especially in how final fares are split between the company and drivers.

As the situation develops, it highlights broader concerns within the gig economy, where clarity over earnings and pricing structures continues to be a key issue for drivers and passengers alike.
