A GrabFood rider in Singapore allegedly took sips from a customer’s Milo drink from McDonald’s before delivering it, and this unsettling episode has sparked concerns about food delivery safety and hygiene.
The Unsettling Encounter
The incident came to light when TikTok user @haziquehibri shared his disturbing experience on Thursday, September 7th. He had recently placed an order for a meal from McDonald’s through the GrabFood platform.
In the CCTV video, the scene unfolds with a man dressed in GrabFood’s recognizable uniform. He is seen holding a McDonald’s cup with both hands and placing it against his face, drinking from it for at least five seconds. This unsettling footage was captured by the condominium’s intercom system.
Initially, @haziquehibri thought that the GrabFood rider had purchased a drink for himself while waiting for the order. However, his perception shifted when the rider arrived at his doorstep carrying just one drink.
Upon receiving the drink, @haziquehibri noticed that the cup’s mouthpiece was wet. He confronted the rider, revealing that he had observed him drinking from the cup on the surveillance camera.
In response, the rider appeared puzzled and simply uttered, “HUH?”
The video concludes with @haziquehibri expressing shock over the rider’s high five-star rating and questioning whether the rider might be working on other food delivery platforms.
While empathizing with food delivery riders and understanding that they may get thirsty during their work, @haziquehibri urged them to take a drink off him instead of passing a beverage they had put their lips on.
According to @haziquehibri, this unsettling incident occurred on August 31st after he had ordered a Double McSpicy Meal via GrabFood.
While initially considering eating the food that came with the meal, he eventually discarded both the meal and the drink, stating that he “didn’t quite have the appetite.”
Grab’s Response
Following @haziquehibri’s revelations, GrabFood provided an update on the situation via Instagram. The food delivery giant informed the public that they had issued a full refund to the customer.
This gesture came after Hazique informed Grab about his decision to discard the entire meal. Initially, GrabFood had offered $4 refund.
