GrabPay Card to Retire on June 1, 2024: What Users Need to Know

GrabPay Card, an extension of the GrabPay Wallet e-wallet, will be discontinued from June 1, 2024, as announced by Grab on April 1, 2024. The decision to discontinue the GrabPay Card comes after a comprehensive evaluation of the company’s financial services business.

From April 1, 2024, Grab will no longer accept new applications for digital or physical GrabPay Cards. Users with existing physical GrabPay Cards can submit replacement requests until April 30, 2024. However, users who have not activated their physical cards will only have until May 31, 2024, to do so.

June deadline

After June 1, 2024, GrabPay cards will no longer be usable for online and offline transactions, locally and overseas. GrabRewards points can still be earned on eligible transactions until May 31, 2024, and the points earned before June 1 will only expire six months later. The user’s GrabPay Wallet balance will not be affected.Grab noted that there is much higher adoption and use of other Grab offerings, such as PayLater by Grab and GrabPay Wallet, which better cater to the needs of their users.

As a result, the company has decided to shift its focus to these services.Users looking for similar alternatives to GrabPay Card can consider other e-wallet services that provide digital or physical cards for payment, such as Revolut and YouTrip.With Revolut, users can top up their e-wallet using a debit or credit card or a linked bank account.

The free standard account comes with a digital and physical card that allows for ATM withdrawals and in-app foreign currency exchange.YouTrip, which functions similarly to Revolut, offers exchange rates with zero per cent fees and is compatible with Apple Pay and Google Pay, which can be used to make payments using the user’s mobile devices.Grab users are encouraged to check their GrabPay Card balance and make any necessary transactions before the deadline. The GrabPay Card will continue to be usable for online and offline transactions until May 31, 2024.
