A Facebook user, Shafiee Barahim, shared how he visited Cameron Highlands in Malaysia and had food poisoning after he returned to Singapore.
He said that he saw a doctor in Singapore but his insurance claim was rejected because he didn’t seek medical treatment before he came back to Singapore.
His insurance contract stated that the medical condition must have occurred during his trip and he must have sought treatment during the trip outside of Singapore in order to claim his insurance.
Here is what he said
On 14 July, I went to Cameron Highland and returned on 17 July.
Saw a Dr on 22 July due to stomach discomfort and was given an immediate jab as the Dr diagnosed it as bacterial gastroenteritis.
Made an online claim from Allianz travel insurance on 23 July. 5 days (28 July) after I made the claim online, they asked me for a medical report from the Dr.
I replied to the email by sharing with them that whenever I made a medical claim from FWD, MSIG etc, I was only required to provide a detail receipt as the clinic would include medicines dispensed and/or treatment given with the amount I paid for the consultation, medicines and/or treatment.
Now, ANOTHER 5 days (2 August) later after my reply to their email, they responded that my claim is rejected as there are terms and conditions in the insurance contract that ‘the medical condition must have occured DURING my trip AND I must have sought medical treatment during my trip OUTSIDE Singapore’.
In another words, if you are sick AFTER your overseas trip (even if you could prove that your sickness was due to the trip), Allianz may approve your medical claim if you have ALREADY SOUGHT medical treatment BEFORE youR return to Singapore.
Weird terms I must admit but this gives me an important lesson NOT to buy any insurance from Allianz again.
