Justin Yeo Kiong Swee, 23-years-old, was sentenced to 2 weeks imprisonment and fined $2,000 on 27 October after scheming to steal vapes from a deliveryman to resell.
He was one of 8 people who were prosecuted by HSA for the illegal sale of vapes and their accessories between July and October this year.
The deliveryman had called the police and Yeo was then arrested along with his 2 other accomplices.
A total of more than $70,000 worth of vapes and accessories that they bought from overseas and sold online were seized and the 8 offenders were fined a total of $57,000.
Tang Wee Meng, 19-year-old, was arrested in a failed smuggling attempt at Woodlands Checkpoint.
Yew Chee Sian was caught smuggling 7,000 vapes and accessories through parcel post and was fined $40,500 under the Tobacco Act.
Persons found guilty of selling, importing, or distributing e-vaporizers and their components face a fine of up to $10,000 and a jail term of up to 6 months.
Repeat offenders face a fine of up to $20,000 and a jail term of up to 1 year.
The possession, purchase and use of e-vaporisers have been made illegal since February 2018.
