Getting hacked seems to be the biggest issue in the age where everything is digitalisation. There has been so much news of people getting scammed.
An Instagram user recently shared how her Instagram account was taken over by a hacker and it was used to target her followers.
After the account got taken over, the hacker posted a post seeking help from her followers that she is in some financial distress, the hacker then posted photos of account numbers and plead for help with her followers.
These account number typically belongs to money mules and it is not easy to trace the real culprit.
Instagram users with large follower
Hackers typically target users with a large following as most people equals more money.
Social account media users are advertised to tighten their accounts by using two-factor authentication and use a strong password.
Recently, Straits Times reported a similar case where a woman’s Instagram account with 5,000 followers was taken over, the hacker started posting transactions screenshots on her account and the owner of the account was worried that her followers will fall prey to the hacker.
She has since reported the incident to the Police.
Prevention is key
There will always be scammers is a term similar to there will always be cockroaches. Even the comet which wiped out the dinosaurs could not get rid of them.
The key to protecting your account and your followers or friends is securing your account. Do not click suspicious on links that are sent to you and do not be greedy.
Some hackers use a “collaboration” email to lure Instagram influencers into clicking the link, making them think that they might have struck a deal.
