HALIMAH YACOB TELLS KING OF M’SIA THAT M’SIAN DEATH ROW INMATE ACCORDED FULL DUE PROCESS

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Singapore said on 3 December that Singapore President Halimah Yacob replied to the King of Malaysia, Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, that the Malaysian man Nagaenthran A/L K Dharmalingam, who is on death row in Singapore for drug offences, has been accorded the full due process of the law.

Malaysia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kamarudin Jaffar, said in the Malaysian parliament that the King had written to President Halimah Yacob to appeal for clemency for the death row inmate, according to Free Malaysia Today.

Kamarudin shared in parliament that “We tried all we could to help, and I can reveal that apart from the foreign minister and the prime minister, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had also written to the Singapore president for the sentence to be reduced for a certain case, or the individual to be freed.”

Malaysian Prime Minister also wrong to Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to seek leniency for the death row inmate Nagaenthran, according to a report by Bernama on 7 November.

The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said in a press release on 123 November that both PM Lee and minister of foreign affairs Vivian Balakrishnan have replied to their Malaysian counterparts that the inmate was accorded full due process under the law.
