Wah bro, this one really buay tahan. Got this guy in my secondary school clique, name Desmond. Always show off his BMW 3 Series, every weekend sure post one IG story of his car dashboard with some EDM song blasting. He always act like he big boss, say things like, “Bro, if you never drive German car, you don’t know what is life.”
But hor, few weeks back we go Johor pump petrol and eat lok lok. We all chill at the petrol kiosk, then Desmond suddenly pull me one side and whisper, “Eh bro, can lend me $30 first or not? Need to pump petrol, later I pay you back.”
I blur like sotong. I say, “Eh you drive BMW leh, how come no money to pump petrol?” He say, “Aiya, this month got unexpected expense. My crypto portfolio dip.”
I lend him lah, paiseh to reject in front of the rest. But then after that, I found out he borrow from his ah ma also. His grandma still give him pocket money like primary school kid. She 70-plus, take bus to market every day, and he got no shame ask her for petrol money to drive BMW.
Then next week, he post again on IG, caption say: Hustle never stops. Grind 24/7. Wah lao, the only grinding he do is his grandma’s retirement money.
This type of people ah, face value high, but bank account empty. I rather drive my old Toyota than pretend like I’m rich. At least I sleep better at night.
