According to a Facebook post by ICA, officers were able to stop two vehicles with modified compartments storing contraband cigarettes.
In two separate incidents on the 27 and the 29 of December 2019, ICA officers at Woodlands Checkpoint found a total of 556 cartons and 1,458 packets of assorted duty-unpaid cigarettes.
The cars were driven by a 33-year-old male Malaysian and a 27-year-old female Malaysian, both drivers and collected evidence were referred and transferred to Singapore Customs for further investigations.

This method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore.
The ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers and vehicles so as to safeguard Singapore’s security.
