My husband keeps comparing me to his ex.
My husband thinks I am his second best choice for a partner. My husband and I were having my husband’s parents over to celebrate the announcement of our pregnancy. I went to the bedroom to get the test to show my MIL.
This is my first child, but for my husband it will be his second. When I was walking back to the room I heard that they were already engaged in a conversation so I decided to wait for them to finish.
MIL said asked husband how he was feeling about being a father to a second child. Husband said that it didn’t feel as exciting as the first time.
My heart sank. He continued to speak about his ex and how the sparks he felt when she announced they would be parents were not there for this time.
This wouldn’t be the first time I overheard something like this. I waited for five minutes of silence before re-entering the room as I normally would.
Another incident was when we slept together for the first time. I was a virgin and the only person I have ever slept with is my husband to this day.
He is very experienced and has slept with a few other women besides me. During our first time together, I asked him how it felt and once again he mentioned his ex.
He said that it was very passionate in normal standards, but compared to the ex it will always be vanilla. His opinion has since changed but this still sits in the back of my mind.
I do not understand why he continues to bring her up. Every thing I do she must be mentioned. There have been instances where he has called me her name while drunk. It hurts so much. Am I not good enough to be his wife? It feels like he was made to be with her rather than me. I am the only one getting sparks here.
