A posting on ICA’s Facebook page recently showed how they foiled a shipment of close to a million dollars worth of vape products at the Changi Airfreight Centre. The illegal items were declared as bags, clothes and toys.

On 16 Oct, ICA officers at Changi Airfreight Centre foiled an attempt to smuggle a total of 1,000 e-vaporisers and 24,400 e-vaporiser refill pods into Singapore via cargo consignments declared as “bags and clothes” and “clothes and toys”.
The smuggling attempt was uncovered by our eagle-eyed officers who noticed anomalies in the x-ray images of these consignments.
The case was referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) for further investigations.
This method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore. The ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers, goods and vehicles so as to safeguard Singapore’s security.
