A video has emerged on social media about street interviews with University students in India on which ethnic group in the world has the funniest sounding accent when speaking English.
Note: This is not taken in Singapore, did not happen in Singapore.
Snippets of the interview
The first girl that was interviewed said when asked:
“I find Chinese English Accent quite funny, because they don’t use proper *inaudible inaudible* English grammar.”
The second group of interviewees are two boys and when asked they said:
Boys: “Chinese, I must say Chinese.”
Interviewer: “When they speak English?”
Boys: “Exactly, They even don’t ah pronounce it very well ah the lips even don’t open for them.“
The third group of interviewees are also two boys and when asked they said:
“Sorry sorry not offensive it looks like they’re spitting and I think our *inaudible* accent is better.”
The fourth interviewee was a boy and he said:
“They need to learn English from us.”
Netizens comments
Netizens of course have much to chirp in when it comes to who is better.
Here are some of the top comments:
- I need to learn their confidence
- I was at UK, and they understood me well. Maybe cos I am Singaporean and Maybe they meant China Chinese. Lol. Cos back at China, they mostly speak Chinese, not much opportunity to practice English with others.
- They did not even to bother to hear how their own accent sounds like
- The only thing we probably really need to learn from them is the place where they get their confidence from.
- At this point, I don’t know if they are self delusional or just lacking of self awareness.
- I have to agree their accent is better, if you compare to the Chinese in China who are stuck in their villages and have never left before.
