An Indian man in Singapore recently went viral and became famous in China for speaking impressively fluent Cantonese and asking people to take a tea break.
54-year-old Gurdip Singh, grew up in Kuantan City, Malaysia’s Pahang state, around many ethnic Chinese neighbours and friends, picking up the language.
He then moved to Singapore at the age of 16 and is now working at Jurong as a Marine Technician.
Singh is also known to others as Elvis, and he said that he started making videos last March when his friends and family asked him to make better use of his language ability.
He sent his videos to his friend through Whatsapp, who then sent the videos to their friends in China, and he eventually went viral in China.
Singh was seen in a video holding a packet of Teh Peng, asking his viewers to take a tea break.
He said in his videos (in Cantonese):
“Time to take a break! Work so hard for what? Your boss also won’t cherish you.”
