JEWEL CHANGI’S BURGER & LOBSTER SUSPENDED AFTER 17 PEOPLE FELL SICK

The Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said in a statement that the Burger & Lobster outlet in Jewel Changi Airport has been suspended from 16 May until further notice.

This is after 17 people who ate food from the establishment experienced gastroenteritis, with the authorities adding that they are investigating the incidents.

The 17 customers had eaten food prepared by the restaurant from 7 May to 16 May, with four being being sent to the hospital – of which one has since been discharged, with the other 3 in stable condition.

The other cases had sought outpatient treatment, medicated themselves and/or recovered without treatment.

burger & Lobster has since been suspended by the SFA until further notice, with all the food handlers working there needing to re-attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 1, as well as test negative for foodborne pathogens before being allowed to resume their work as food handlers.

The licensee of the restaurant is also required to clean and sanitise the premises, as well as getting rid of all the ready-to-eat and perishable foods.
