An immigration officer from Johor allegedly asked a Singaporean family of 6 for a bribe after the family had driven past a booth that was unmanned at the JB checkpoint without getting their passports chopped.

The alleged bribery incident soon hit the headlines, with Chief Minister of Johor, Onn Hafiz Ghazin saying that he will take this allegation seriously and get the authorities to investigate.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the Singaporean family was at the JB checkpoint when an immigration officer then removed a safety cone at one of the lanes.

The officer then gestured towards them to proceed towards the immigration counter of that particular lane, and when they did so, they didn’t see anyone inside.

They then drove past a barrier that had lifted after they tapped their Touch n Go card, before realising their mistake at a customs declaration lane.

They then stopped and approached another officer who directed them to an office.

The 42-year-old matriarch of the family, Mrs Song, said that an officer wearing slippers in uniform told the family to meet him outside.

He told them that their passports being unstamped was a big problem, and asked them if they wanted to settle this personally or do they want him to report it.

The officer then allegedly asked for RM400, RM100 for each adult but they didn’t have enough cash with them, so the officer then allegedly said okay to RM200.
