Residents in southern Taiwan were left terrified after a man allegedly armed with multiple weapons went on a violent rampage in the streets of Kaohsiung, damaging property and injuring a member of the public before fleeing the scene on a bicycle.
The shocking incident happened on May 26 along Zhongxiao Road in the A-Lian district of Kaohsiung.
According to local reports, the suspect was seen cycling through the area while waving a sickle around and shouting loudly, with witnesses claiming he appeared emotionally unstable.
The man allegedly first entered a nearby retail store while carrying two knives, causing panic among shoppers and staff members inside.
Customers Fled After Suspect Allegedly Smashed Store Interior
Witnesses said the suspect began swinging the weapons around inside the store and allegedly damaged the cashier counter while smashing merchandise during the chaos.
Customers reportedly ran out of the premises in fear as the situation escalated rapidly.
After leaving the store, the suspect then moved towards a nearby beverage stall while still carrying a sickle.
A delivery lorry driver who had stopped to buy a drink noticed the weapon being swung dangerously close to him and instinctively tried to block it with his hand.
During the confrontation, the victim suffered cuts to the area between his thumb and index finger.
Emergency responders later treated the 31-year-old man at the scene. Authorities said his injuries were minor and not life-threatening.
CCTV Captured Terrifying Attack Before Suspect Escaped
Surveillance footage from the area reportedly captured much of the frightening incident, including the suspect fleeing the scene on his bicycle after the attack.
Police confirmed they have identified and tracked the suspect involved in the case and launched a manhunt shortly after the incident.
Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the violent outburst and whether the suspect was suffering from mental distress at the time.
The case has since sparked concern online, with many netizens shocked that the suspect was openly carrying dangerous weapons while cycling around a public area during peak evening hours.
