The Brother of Singapore’s Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Yang, as well as his wife Lee Suet Fern are currently under police investigation for alleged offences like giving fake evidence in proceedings over the will of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, according to an article by CNA.
Mr Lee Kuan Yew is the founding Prime Minister of Singapore.
Refused to attend Police interview
According to the article, Singapore’s Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean said that as part of the Police’s investigation into the case, they had asked the couple to attend an interview.
The couple initially agreed to attend the interview but had a last minute change of mind.
Police had also reached out to them to persuade them to reconsider their decision not to take part in the investigations but they have since left Singapore.
Police also informed them that all steps which are necessary to finish the investigations would be taken even though they are not present.
Minister Teo also said that the refusal to attend the interview by the couple was disappointing.
PM Lee Hsien Loong was caught up in a dispute with his siblings, Mr Lee Hsien Yang and Dr Lee Wei Ling over their family home at 38 Oxley Road after the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s passing.
Lee Suet Fern was in 2020 suspended from practice for 15 months because she was guilty of misconduct when handling the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s last will.
Minister Teo on Thursday noted that Mr Lee Hsien Yang and wife had misled the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew in the execution of the his last will and also lied under oath.
Minister Teo also said that by not attending the Police interview, the couple certainly raised a few questions and if they were really innocent, they should have taken the chance to clear their name and give their side of the story.
