In a devastating turn of events, a 28-year-old technician in Penang, Malaysia, lost his life while conducting maintenance work on a lift, he died from severe head injuries after his head got trapped between the lift doors, according to The Star.
The incident, which unfolded on December 26, 2023, at the One Stop Centre in George Town, Penang, highlights the inherent risks associated with such crucial tasks.
The victim, identified as 28-year-old R Tinesh Kumar, was a technician tasked with maintaining lifts.
The Emergency Call and Rescue Efforts
The Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia officially confirmed R Tinesh Kumar’s death, citing the severe injuries sustained to his head during the maintenance work.
At 4:45 pm on December 26, the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department’s Operation Centre in Penang received an emergency call seeking assistance at the One Stop Centre in George Town. The distressing call set in motion a rapid response to the unfolding tragedy.
Upon reaching the scene, firefighters discovered two lift maintenance workers trapped inside the lift. The situation took a dire turn when it was revealed that one of the technicians, R Tinesh Kumar, was unconscious, with his head lodged in the lift doors.
To free the trapped technician, the firefighters had to manually elevate the lift, a challenging and delicate operation. The second technician, a 53-year-old man, was rescued using a duplicate key. Despite the valiant efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Aftermath and Investigation
The lifeless body of R Tinesh Kumar was officially pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. His remains were subsequently transferred to Penang Hospital, marking the beginning of an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
