A local Singaporean girl recently resigned from her company and posted on her frustration online after she felt that her boss was sexist towards her.

I was grateful to find a new job during this uncertainty. But after a few weeks I feel its a matter of time when I say bye bye to this company. All because of my misogynist superior.
He’s not my direct report, but my boss’ boss. During the first week when he intro me and another new recruit (guy) to the rest of dept, he said “this is Andrew (i used fake name here), just joined us, ops planning for apac region bla bla bla”. Then when it came to my turn, “this is Jean (not my real name), young lady who’s also new here, ops planning also, bla bla bla”.
I was like, the new guy is younger than me, why only emphasize “young lady” for me and not “young man” for him?
Another incident. Usually my direct report will need to vet through our work before submitting to him. But he told my direct report that if no time, the new guy’s work can route directly to him. Why not my work route directly to him? The new guy is less experienced than me, so shouldn’t his work need be vetted more?
I feel his sexist attitude even in our dress code. Fri is dress down. I was wearing T shirt. He saw me along the corridor and said I should wear something with collar, if not look sloppy especially if clients around. Cmon the new guy also wear Tshirt I also never heard him comment anything to him.
His misogynist attitude is not obvious if you never notice carefully. I’m the kind who process deeply what others say and do to me, whether got hidden meaning or not. And I’m quite sure all his words and actions reflect his bias against me. I feel offended and no point complaining to HR because he’s one of the powerful lao jiao there HR won’t dare to touch him. Only way for me is to leave to another company hope they can see both guy and female are equal.
